Hands up who wanted to be an astronaut as a kid? Now hands up who up who actually made it as an astronaut? We’re going to assume unless your name is Buzz Aldrin your hand is back by your side! Whilst we can’t blast you off into outer space we can offer you the next best thing thanks to the Astropod! This incredible piece of kit is like an experience day and science experiment rolled into one. The end result is jaw-dropping footage of the Earth from way up high… and by high we mean really, really, high!
The Astropod launches a camera 24km into the air via a balloon, recording everything as it flies. A fancy onboard computer keeps track of its position thanks to good old GPS.
How it works:
Planning: Once you’ve purchased your Astropod kit, the next step is to choose from one of 10 pre-approved UK launch sites. Next is to redeem the gas for the balloon (ordinarily £100, but only £80 with the voucher included in the pack) and let Astropod know when and where you plan your lift off! They’ll then take care of all the legal bits on your behalf so all that’s left for you to do is get excited!
Launch day: Using the included dedicated software you can plan the Astropods journey and predict its recovery site. All that’s left to do is fill up your balloon and launch it into Near Space! It’ll record its voyage onto its included micro SD card, capturing some breath-taking HD footage as it goes.
Retrieval: When your Astropod deploys its parachute and floats back down to Earth, you don’t have to scour the planet to find where it landed. You can predict the flight path and then get real-time updates from its flight computer, which are sent right to your phone. Follow the GPS co-ordinates and plan to meet your Astropod where it lands… remembering that the adventure might take you off the beaten path!
The excitement of tracking your space camera as it comes back to Earth plus the enjoyment of watching its footage make using the Astropod an unforgettable experience. So, if you’re ready to start living your astronaut fantasies, order your Astropod today!
