Which Harry Potter House Does Your Town Belong To? Find Out on This UK Map!

• 40% of the UK is Gryffindor, 32% Slytherin, 19% Hufflepuff and 9% Ravenclaw
• Less than a third (27%) of world countries are Gryffindor, 41% are Slytherin, 46% Hufflepuff and 29% Ravenclaw
• 57% of Harry Potter fans would prefer to be in Gryffindor

Liverpool belongs in Gryffindor house, Edinburgh is Slytherin, and London is divided across the city, new research has revealed. 

Data obtained by online retailer Lost Universe was used to reveal which city is the UK capital of each Hogwarts house. Doncaster is the capital of Gryffindor, while Birmingham is more Slytherin than anywhere else in the country. Southampton is the Ravenclaw capital of the UK, while Sheffield has the most Hufflepuffs.

With over 58,000 average monthly searches for “What Harry Potter house am I?”, whether you belong in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff is clearly a hot topic amongst fans around the world.

According to a YouGov report, 57% of Harry Potter fans said they would want to be in Gryffindor and just 8% would ask the sorting hat to put them in Slytherin. Sales data and sentiment analysis suggest this is far from the case though. 40% of UK cities and towns should be placed in Gryffindor, a house for the brave, daring and courageous, with almost a third (32%) being put in the house of cunning, ambition and determination, Slytherin.

One in five (19%) of the UK are in Hufflepuff, a house recognised for loyalty, kindness and honesty, while just 9% possess the intelligence, wisdom and creativity of a Ravenclaw.

The research includes sales data on the number of house specific Harry Potter merchandise and products that were bought in each town or city from Lost Universe. Sentiment analysis was then used to back up the data.

Sentiment analysis was also used to reveal which Hogwarts House different countries around the world belong to. Globally, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw were all more common than Gryffindor.

Almost half of the world (46%) should be in Hufflepuff, while 41% should be in Slytherin. 29% are Ravenclaw, while just 27% belong in Gryffindor with Harry, Hermione and Ron.

Most notably, The UK, USA, and Russia could all be placed in either Gryffindor or Slytherin House, while China is one of the few countries that is only Slytherin. Germany and France both belong in Ravenclaw, Canada is Hufflepuff, and Australia is one of the few countries that only shows Gryffindor characteristics.

“Harry Potter, the Wizarding World doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t judge your skin, sexual orientation, your identity, religion, where you were born, it looks inside and sees you for who you truly are. That’s what a lot of us need in life. To see the magic deep within us all. The hat does that and puts us into a family that accepts us for who we truly are.

“As for changing house, I think it’s because maybe when we were younger. We felt connected to a certain house, maybe because our best friend was in that house or a favourite character and so on but as we grow, so does who we become and maybe as we got older, we change who we are or who we want to be. We realise it's ok to take our own path and discover who we truly are.”
