If you crave a gadget that has that special wow factor, then good news – we’ve found it! Looking like something that’s just flown right out of the future comes the jaw droppingly awesome PowerEgg.
Despite its rather silly name this drone is anything but. Quite simply it’s unlike any other drone you’ve ever flown, or seen for that matter. This hi-tech piece of kit is so jam packed with features its hard to know where to start, so let’s begin with the obvious…
The Design…
Just a little bit bigger than a rugby ball and very similar in shape, it’s a design that initially looks very un-aerodynamic, but we love that! It resembles something you’d see in a sci-fi film with its high gloss white finish and subtle LED lights illuminating the propeller arms. There’s no doubt about it this thing looks incredible, even when not in use you’ll want it out in plain sight just to ogle at! But how does it fly?
Performance…
Make no mistake, the Power Egg is here to compete against the big boys. There are a multitude of ways the fly this drone, and unlike some other high-end devices, it even caters for beginners. Along side your usual drone controller there is also a nun chuck remote which allows you to fly the Power Egg with simple hand gestures or via its analogue joystick. There is even a ‘selfie’ mode which requires no input from the user whatsoever. Instead the drone locks on to you and flies autonomously for complete hands-free flying. You can set the drone to circle your location whilst you simply control the camera, or even set it along a path using waypoints mapped on the free app (iOS and Android). The landing gear automatically retracts when in the air and the one button land/take off makes this one of the easiest drones to fly…ever.
One of our favourite features is the ‘pause’ button. Its best to think of it like the Power Egg’s emergency brake. With a simple press the drone will instantly hold its position in mid air – a fantastic safety feature that even the most accomplished of fliers will still appreciate.
The PowerEgg is suitable for flying indoors or out. When outside the onboard Global Positioning System keeps track of where it is relative to its user. When indoors it does something even cleverer with the aid of sonar and ground pattern recognition. Fancy stuff.
Smile, you’re in ultra high def...
With a drone that looks this good it would be a shame if its footage didn’t. Thankfully the Power Egg has this covered all thanks to an ultra-high definition camera that shoots in 4K. Not only that it is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal ensuring that its footage is silky smooth. You can capture incredible video footage, shoot breath-taking panoramic images, time-lapse shots and burst photography all from this versatile drone. Everything is recorded on to an SD card so you can easily transfer to other devices.
Other cool bits…
Even with all of the above there is still a lot we have touched on. For example, the Power Egg hosts a 6400mAh battery capable of flight times up to an impressive 23 minutes. You can control the drone over a huge range of 5KM. The Power Egg streams footage back to the free app meaning you can control the drone FPV. A base station sits separately from the remote which allows for communication between you and the drone and means the controller is lighter as it full of less clutter.
Simply put, this might just be the best drone to ever come through the Menkind doors! You could say its egg-cellent! (c’mon only one egg based pun in all the above is cracking).
